Connect a workspace machine
Add a machine that runs agents for the whole workspace, even when members are offline, using an existing machine or a one-time setup code.
A workspace machine runs agents for the whole workspace and keeps working when members are offline. It belongs to the workspace, not to one person. Use it for scheduled agents that should run overnight, or for a dedicated computer such as a Mac mini.
Who can do this: only workspace owners and admins can connect or manage workspace machines. When you connect an existing machine, only that machine’s owner can connect it. Workspace machines are a Pro add-on; see Billing and plans.
Start from the app
- Open Settings → Machines and find the Workspace machines section.
- Click Connect workspace machine. The dialog is titled Connect a workspace machine.
- Choose one of two options:
- An existing machine: connect a machine you already use with Cyborg.
- A dedicated machine: set up a separate machine, such as a Mac mini, to run workspace agents around the clock.
An existing machine
- Select the machine to connect.
- Read the confirmation. Agents started by other members will run on this machine and can access its files and signed-in accounts, so use a dedicated machine for sensitive work.
- Click Connect to workspace (or Upgrade to Pro to connect if the workspace is not on Pro yet).
A dedicated machine
-
Enter a Name, for example “Office Mac mini”, and click Get setup code.
-
On the new machine, install Cyborg, choose Set up as a workspace machine on the sign-in screen, and enter the setup code. The dialog also links the Mac and Windows downloads.
-
No display or keyboard? Open No display or keyboard? Run this command in Terminal instead in the dialog and run the command it shows. It is the CLI form:
cyborg daemon join --code CYB-XXXX-XXXXYou can set the code in the
CYBORG_SETUP_CODEenvironment variable instead of passing--code. It needs no account and nocyborg daemon claim. To install the CLI first, see Add a machine. -
The dialog waits, then confirms that the machine is connected to the workspace.
A setup code is single use and expires (the dialog shows the time left and says codes are valid for 24 hours). The code is shown once. If you lose it, choose Get new code on the Machines page; the previous code stops working. Cancel setup cancels a code that has not been used.
After it is connected
- Workspace access decides who can use the machine: All members · Can run agents, All members · Can message agents, or Restricted (only the people you add under Access on the machine’s page).
- Members can pick the machine when they start an agent; it appears under Workspace machines in the machine picker.
- To take a machine out, open it and choose Remove from workspace. Members lose access immediately (except people granted access individually), and agents already running on it continue to run. A machine that was connected from someone’s own computer remains that person’s personal machine.
- The machine itself shows a home screen saying it is managed by your workspace. Keep it plugged in and awake, and do not quit Cyborg on it.
